How Does a Level B Exercise Become a Level C Exercise?
One of the ways that the PFMS has systematized aspects of our programming process is through our Levels of Designation.
Those of you who have gone through the Pain-Free Movement Specialist recognize the A through D designation. Any given exercise falls under an A, B, C or D designation based on the biomechanical, physiological and neurological complexities of the exercise. "A" being the simplest, most remedial, and "D" being the most advanced and integrated.
A Level "B" exercise is performed prone, supine, side-lying, quadruped, kneeling, and/or seated. The objective is to begin increasing complexity to encourage a new movement strategy by associating it with an existing central motor program.
In the video we are sharing with you today, I demonstrate how sitting on a labile surface ( in this example my Core-Tex Sit) while performing a few familiar exercises, can progress a "B" exercise to a "C" exercise. The instability and inherent variability created by Core-Tex Sit increases the biomechanical, physiological and neurological demand of the exercises, thus moving them to a "C" designation.
